ELECTROPHORESIS LONZA FLASHGEL The Lonza FlashGel system The unique FlashGel system from Lonza can revolutionize your teaching, as an ordinary electrophoresis only takes 5 minutes! The gels are purchased precast and prestained in special cassettes, which are placed in a combined electrophoresis and transilluminator device (non-UV). The method is 5-20 times more sensitive than ethidium bromide. The system requires an ordinary electrophoresis power supply and can run at voltages of up to 275V. However, 125-150V often gives a neater separation of the bands. The cassettes are supplied in two different concentrations, where the 1.2% gel is best for DNA pieces in the size range 50 bp – 4 kb, while the 2.2% gel is best for DNA pieces in the range 20 bp–1 kb. The system is available both with and without camera. A camera and dock can also be purchased separately. Using FlashGel markers and loading dyes ensures the best possible results, but other markers and loading dyes can be easily used as well.
